Individuals and Families Affected By Neurobiological Brain
Disorders (Mental Illnesses)
The
National Alliance for the Mentally
Ill is a nationwide volunteer, non-profit, self-help organization composed of
families and friends of people who have brain disorders and
those persons themselves. NAMI is made of more of 1200 local
affiliates and 50 state organizations. It’s goals are to
provide mutual support, education about illnesses, finding
resources to cope, educate and promote services available for
those afflicted, and to promote research on the case, treatments
and ultimately the cures. NAMI sponsors public meetings,
classes and conferences featuring research, treatment, housing,
legislation, rehabilitation, and coping.
